Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. She moved to Oxfordshire when she was five years old and attended at the Dragon School. Emma was inspired to become an actor at age six. Over the course of several years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing, dancing and acting. At the age of ten she was involved and played the leading role in numerous Stagecoach School plays and productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone The 2001 film adaption of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was discovered by Emma's Oxford Theatre instructor. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after 8 auditions. They were selected as the 3 leads Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. Emma's film debut was made with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). This film was 2001's highest earning film, smashing records on opening day and first weekend. Reviewers were awed by the performance of the film as well as its story. The Daily Telegraph, an important British newspaper, called Emma's performance "amazing". Emma was awarded five nominations for her exceptional performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress of the Film.
